Pawna Lake

Bhaja Caves
Next, in the list of places to visit in Khandala is the Bhaja caves which are a cluster of 22-rock cut adobes of tranquility. These are located slightly away from Kamshet and were built back in 60 BC. Out of the 22, there is one main cave  “Chaitya” that features a prayer hall and is an epitome of peace.

The caves are surrounded by lush green blankets of nature and are a delight for wandering souls. The texture of the caves is rugged and the entire region remains cool. Make sure that you capture amazing pictures, as the frames it offers are great.

Tikona Fort

Tikona Fort is a dominant hill fortress of Konkan’s Pawan Maval region. This is Maharashtra’s popular one-day trekking spot. Locally, it is famous by the name Vitandgad. Situated on top of the Tikona peak, this fort has an altitude of 3633 feet from the sea level.

If you take a look at its present-day geography, it resembles a triangle and thus named as Tikona. Large fortifications, seven water tanks filled with crystal clear water, large doorways, and spectacular surrounding views from its bastion sums up the beauty of this place. Sahyadri’s green hillocks are just like cherries on the cake!

Many Maratha dynasties have marked their presence here in the past and also, Tikona Fort was known as the centre for Pauna Mawal’s primary activities. Tikona Fort’s entrance itself represents beauty with sophistication. As soon as you pass through it, you will witness the presence of Buddhist and Satavahana Caves within.

Both types of caves have great significance in Indian history. Besides, there’s a small Trimbakeshwar Mahadev temple inside which revives the spiritual beliefs of the first residents of this fort.

With no wonders, Tikona Fort is blessed with some stunning landscapes attracting heaps of trekking enthusiasts and those who love Mother Nature. The moment you trek to the topmost summit of this fort, you have the liberty to enjoy the panoramic view of the vastly stretched Maval region. Tung Fort, Bhatrashi Hill, Jambhul Hill, Lohagad, Fagne dam, and Visapur are some sightseeing delights from the topmost position of this Tikona Fort.

Mtdc Water Park
MTDC’s Water park is also a resort that offers great views of the Sahyadri range. It is located right next to the water sports center. The water park is also called Karla water park and has a number of slides for children as well as adults to enjoy. It has a dedicated area for rain dance along with a wave pool. 

The water park offers water sport activities such as jet-skiing, paddle boat, motorbike, water scooter which is absolutely safe for enthusiasts of all age groups to indulge in. Visitors to this water park can choose to spend the night at MTDC’s resort for a relaxed experience and may also visit the nature park which is located on the same premises.

Entry fee: For children under 4 feet - INR 200 per head, for guests residing at the MTDC Karla resort and entering water park -INR 300 per head, for outsiders - INR 350 per head. 
Korigad Fort

Snuggled 20 km away from Lonavala in Pune, Korigad Fort is one of the scenic spots showcasing the grandeur of Shivaji’s Legacy. This elegant edifice was built back in the 15th century and is established at a soaring height of 929 meters above the ground. The serenity of the site is maintained with the three elegant temples that are built on the notch of the peak.

Sentosa Resorts And Water Park
Regarded as one of the best amusement parks in Lonavala, Sentosa resorts and water park offers thrilling experiences through its twirling rides! It is a great option for tourists who want to beat the heat by taking a dip into the water and splashing some drops. The park has a rain dance corner where visitors dance to the beat of the live DJ. 

It also has a wave pool along with various other slides like Tube twister, water play system, Magical Mat Slides, Kiddie pool, leisure pool, and a waterfall. The amusement park also has other amenities like free parking, lockers, restaurants, costumes for the water park and fast food area.

Ghangad Fort

A 300 years old structure situated near Tamhini Ghat and Mulshi, it is said that Ghangad Fort used to be a prison under the kingdom of Peshwas. And apparently, it was also the watchtower for the city of Pune. Unfortunately, there is not much historical evidence supporting this fact.

However, what the fort is sure to offer is the views for the lush green region from the very top. Ghangad fort is a popular trekking destination amongst residents of Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur. The trek is a medium to easy level trek which on average takes about an hour to reach the midpoint of the fort.



From here, it does not take more than 30 to 40 minutes to reach the top. This fort is also a great space for camping as there is a lot of open space. Moreover, the fort also houses several other attractions such as the caves, the age-old fortifications, a temple of Goddess Garjai and a water cistern of stone cuts.

Tung Fort

Enclosed in vast tropics and found at an astounding height of 1075m from sea leave, Tung fort is a mesmerizing destination in Maharashtra, India. The fort is specifically admired for its breathtaking views and spectacular treks. The literal translation of the word “Tung” is “difficult” and hiking to this momentous fort is surely a task. Apart from this, the place is also excellent for a family picnic and camping.

Furthermore, the peaky and oval structure of the fort makes it a prominent attraction from a distance. From the top of the fort, visitors can enjoy an alluring view of the dazzling Pawna Lake, Tikona and Visapur fort. After a climb, the visitors can also unwind and visit either the Tungi Devi or Ganpati temples. The best time to enjoy a visit to this glorious place is just after the rainy season, between September and January.

Nishiland Water Park

Another option for an amusement park in Lonavala, Nishiland Water Park has many attractions and slides for visitors of all age groups. Some of these most popular ones include Rub a Dub Jacuzzi, wave pool, lazy river, children’s play pool, body slides and steep slides where one slides from the height of 32 feet and takes a splash in the pool. 

Panshet Water Park

A relatively newly opened amusement park in Lonavala, Panshet Water Park is known for offering thrilling and fun water rides. It is located close to the famous Khadakwasla dam and is nestled around the western ghats. 

This water park is also surrounded by the Sahyadri hills giving a picturesque backdrop to the exciting water activities. It is a great bet during the summers as it allows one to escape the strong heat and take a dip in the water!

Timings: 10 PM to 6 PM on all days

Entry fee: On the weekdays - INR 250 for adults and INR 170 for children under the height of 4 feet. On weekends and public holidays - INR 300 for adults and INR 230 for children under the height of 4 feet.
