Bhangarh Fort, nestled in Rajasthan's Alwar district, whispers tales from the 17th century. Known as India's most haunted site, it captivates tourists with its stunning ruins and mysterious legends. Bala Quila is perched on the Aravalli Hills, about 300 m (1,000 ft) above Alwar offering stunning panoramic views of both township and the hills. Visitors can get to the 15 large and over 50 smaller towers through a scenic footpath or a guided jeep safari through the forest.
The fort was first built by the Nikumbh Rajputs in the early 1500s. Hasan Khan Mewati rebuilt it after Khanzada Alawal Khan took it in 1492 AD. It was then ruled by the Mughals, Marathas, and Jats until Maharana Pratap Singh took it in 1775 AD to make Alwar as a state.
There are beautiful marble-columned halls (Nikumbha Mahal), calm reservoirs (Suraj Kund, Salim Sagar), temples, and a small arms museum with cannons, swords, and muskets inside.
Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Alwar. Spread over an area of more than 800 square kilometres, this sanctuary offers a safe haven to the majestic Royal Bengal tigers of Alwar. The sanctuary is made up of grasslands, dry deciduous forests, cliffs and rocky terrains. Cenotaphs are a hallmark of royal Rajasthani architecture, and Moosi Maharani Ki Chhatri is one of the best cenotaphs in Alwar district and also one of the best places to see in Alwar.
