Know Before You Go
- The trek takes place through an eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites. Travellers littering may be fined.
- Water is very precious, so conservation is appreciated.
- Avoid using earphones during the trek; this might hinder your audibility.
- Avoid using plastic bags and maintain the ecological balance of the destinations.
- In case, the trek needs to be cancelled, the authorities should be informed beforehand.
- Guidelines issued by the State-Government is to be followed. Social distancing to be maintained. Frequent hand sanitisation and use of mask recommended.
- Please provide a valid ID at the time of check-in.

About the Gangotri Glacier Trek:
Short yet extensive trip to find the sources of the pride of India, the mighty Ganges in their original forms, trek starting from Haridwar will let you go through the snow-covered ascents and descents with the views of the splendid Bhagirathi River on one side and the mighty glaciers on the other side. Gomukh is at a distance of 18 KM from Gangotri in the foothills of Bhagirathi at a height of 13862 ft. It is the snout of the Gangotri Glacier. Feel spiritually enhanced and elevated with the hidden blessings from the holy town. This exciting trek offers flabbergasting views of some beautiful mountains like Shivling (21466 ft), Meru, and Bhagirathi group of mountains.

How to reach Haridwar:
By Air:
Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Haridwar. Visitors can take a direct flight to Dehradun from Mumbai or Delhi or connecting flights from anywhere in India. Local vehicles can be availed from outside the airport to reach Haridwar by road from Dehradun.
By Train:
Reaching Haridwar By Trains - Haridwar Junction Railway Station (IR station code: HW) is well-connected by train, with frequent trains to Delhi (4-5 hours) and Dehradun (1 hour). There are also a few trains per day to Rishikesh.
By Road:
Haridwar is well connected by roads to all major cities and towns, so people as per their choice and comfort can take the bus to reach Haridwar smoothly. Haridwar is connected to Chandigarh (205km), Delhi (210km), Dehradun (59km), and Nainital (223km) through a good network of roads.

How far is tapovan from Gangotri?
By Road: Gangotri is the nearest road head to Tapovan from where it is situated at a trekking distance of 20 km. Taxis and daily buses from major cities of Uttarakhand like Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun are available to Uttarkashi city. From Uttarkashi, you can hire a taxi or travel by local bus up to Gangotri.

When should this trek be done?
Best time to visit Gomukh Tapovan is in summers (May – June) and Post monsoon (September – October).
In summers:
The weather of Gangotri remains salubrious during summers. The Himalayan range is distinctly visible. Carrying woolens is advised.
In monsoons:
The greenery of Gomukh Tapovan welcomes the tourist to lose oneself into the wilderness of nature. Enjoy the gazing at the snow capped peaks at Tapovan. There are chances of getting roads blocked for few hours due to landslides but the scenic beauty of Gomukh Tapovan during monsoons is worth taking the risk for. Carrying raincoats is advised.
After Post monsoon:
The region gets blanketed in snow during the winter season and the accommodation options are also restricted to few. But Gomukh and Tapovan looks the best during winters and indeed the trek becomes more difficult. Carrying heavy woolens is advised.

Gomukh aka Gaumukh is the pout of Gangotri Glacier. It is located 18 km from Gangotri, at a height of 13200 ft above sea level, in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand in India. It is the source of Bhagirathi river, and is one of the holiest places for the Hindus though there is no temple here.
