Along with Jeddah being a stunning city on the Red Sea's shore in Saudi Arabia it also is a historically significant port city with a long history as a major commercial centre. With a metropolitan population of roughly 4.3 million people, it is one of Saudi Arabia's most populated cities, serving as a bridge between Asia and Africa on the road to Europe.
It is also regarded as one of the world's hottest cities, with an average summer temperature of 43 degrees Celsius. King Abdulaziz ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia constructed Jeddah approximately 125 BC as a major fishing port on the Red Sea coast of what was then known as Hejaz, directly opposite to Mecca.
Jeddah, a coastal city in Saudi Arabia, is one of the country's oldest, most populated, and most cosmopolitan cities. With its many foundations including libraries, museums, hospitals, universities, and even airports, the city has helped define the country's culture.
The world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, as well as the King Abdullah Mosque and King Fahd Gate, are all located in Jeddah. It is now a major industrial centre and one of Saudi Arabia's largest urban districts. Outside of the hot temperature, however, there are still numerous sights to behold, including historic sites, lovely beaches, mosques, towers and much more.
