The city of Bageshwar is situated on the confluence of river Sarayu and Gomati in the state of Uttarakhand. The name of this city is derived from “Byagreshwar”. ‘Byagra’ means Tiger and ‘Ishwar’ means God. Every temple here has a tale to tell. One of the famous temples of Bageshwar is the Baijnath temple. The magnificent idols of Shiva and Parvati are the main attractions of this place.
A visit to some of these temples will offer an experience that is both profound and serene. Some of the popular ones include Kukuda Mai temple, Trijugi Narayan temple, Veni Mahadev temple and Radha Krishna temple. Pandusthal which is said to be the battleground of the Pandavas and the Kauravas is a must visit. It is about 25 kms from Bageshwar. Vijaypur, which is about 30 kms from here, is known for its panoramic view of the Himalayas.
Pindari glacier, Sunderdhunga glaciers, Kaphni and Namik glaciers offer a magnificent view apart from providing a trekking adventure. As these treks are not simple, one has to be in good shape at all times. Apart from this, one can visit Nainital which is about 136 kms from here. It is the nearest railway station to Bageshwar. One can reach this place by road, rail and by air. The nearest airport is at Pantnagar which is about 180 kms away.
The middle peak of the famous Trishul massif, Trishul Peak II (6,690 m), stands tall over the Nanda Devi Sanctuary in Uttarakhand. It gets its name from its three-pronged shape and is the middle prong of the Shiva-like trio, which is framed by Nanda Ghunti and Mrigthuni on a dramatic north-south ridge.
The trek starts in charming Kumaon villages like Kausani or Bedni Bugyal and goes up through lush green meadows to Base Camp. Expect a 6-7 day trip with good acclimatisation that lets you see and feel the mountain plants, animals, and rural hospitality.
From Base Camp, the southern ridge of Trishul II opens up stunning views of the Himalayas. Climbers try to climb steep snow and mixed terrain with the help of experts. In the mornings, the summit offers views of Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Chaukhamba bathed in alpenglow, which is an amazing sight in the Himalayas.
