MAHALAKSHMI TEMPLE, MUMBAI

Constructed sometime between the 16th and 17th centuries, the Mahalakshmi temple of Mumbai is a popular tourist destination people flock into throughout the year. Dedicated to the Goddess Mahalakshmi, this temple of counted among the oldest in the city. Apart from Goddess Mahalakshmi, Goddess Mahakali and Goddess Mahasaraswati are also worshipped here.

The temple has a very calm and serene feel to it, and spending time here is amazing in the mornings. The temple is really calming in its appearance, as you see it from far away. The Goddess Mahalakshmi occupies the centre in the altar at the temple, with idols of Goddess Mahakali and Mahasaraswati on either side.

All the goddesses are adorned with pearl necklaces, gold bangles, and nose studs. The area around the temple is always jam-packed and busy. You can see a lot of stalls for flowers and goods for worshipping the goddess outside the temple as well.

Come here early in the morning, right after the temple opens at six. It’s always cool and quiet in the mornings, and you will enjoy worshipping the goddess during this time.
