About Exploratorium

The exhibits at Exploratorium are all interactive and you can play with them. Have fun touching a tornado, dancing with your own shadow, stopping time, breaking light apart and doing much more as you navigate the six galleries of the museum. There are more than 650 interactive exhibits in the galleries which are both indoor and outdoor. You must also journey through the world-famous Tactile Dome and spend some time exploring in darkness.

How To Reach Exploratorium

By Car: The Exploratorium is 3.0 mi from the city centre, it will take 10 min via the Broadway and Van Ness Ave route.

By Bus: Take a bus to Embarcadero station which is 0.6 mi away from the place. You can reach the activity location from the bus station with a 15-minute walk

By Train/ metro: Take a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train to the Embarcadero station which is 0.6 mi away from the place. You can reach the activity location from the bus station with a 15-minute walk.

Best Time To Visit Exploratorium

The best season to visit The Exploratorium is during fall, from September to November when the weather is mild and enjoyable. The best day of the week to visit the museum is during the weekdays from Tuesdays to Thursdays when the museum is less crowded. The best time of the day to visit the Exploratorium is just after its opening at 10 am.

Exploratorium Other Essential Information

• Children below seven years old will not be able to participate in Tactile Dome. Also, those who are afraid of the dark, are claustrophobic and have back, neck or knee injuries should not participate. 
• Wear comfortable clothes with layers during your visit to the Exploratorium and also shoes which are suitable for walking.
• If you are carrying bags and coats, you can keep them inside coin-operated lockers available inside the premises.
• If you feel hungry during your visit, you can head towards the Seismic Joint Café, opposite the outdoor plaza and Seaglass Restaurant in the Bay Observatory.
